NAISS Large Fall 2025 call

The following resources are available in the NAISS Large Fall 2025 call (period: 1 January 2026 – 31 December 2026):

NEW: NAISS is changing the structure of application rounds. In this call it is now possible to apply for compute resources, storage resources and resources for sensitive data in the same proposal instead of in separate rounds. From 1 January 2026, NAISS will no longer have separate compute, storage, and sensitive data application rounds. There will be only one type of Large (spring and fall), Medium and Small application rounds, all with a possibility to apply for compute resources, storage resources and resources for sensitive data in the same proposal.

We believe this will simplify for users, as they can – and are strongly recommended to – apply for all their needs in a single proposal. NAISS recognises that there are special cases which might require more than one proposal, for example if an applicant has a need to handle both sensitive and non-sensitive data, but access to the sensitive data should be restricted to a subset of co-investigators. A request for any such exception should be clearly motivated in the proposals.

Who is eligible to apply?

To apply, you have to be a researcher with an established track record of using HPC efficiently for your projects, with resource requirements that exceed the limits of what can be applied for in the Medium application rounds.

The PI is responsible for the proposal and usage of any granted resources. You cannot be a PI for compute resources in a Medium project and compute resources in a Large project simultaneously. If you are already the PI for a Medium project with compute resources they will be terminated if you are granted a Large allocation.

You must be at least an assistant professor at an eligible Swedish institution. NAISS is financed by Swedish tax payers with the objective to strengthen science and research in Sweden. To apply for these resources, the PI must therefore hold an appointment of at least 60 percent at a Swedish university or research institution recognised by the Swedish Research Council.

The research supported by these resources must be predominantly carried out in Sweden. This aspect is taken into account during the evaluation and, in the case of strong competition, can be used to prioritise applications. Additionally, the applicant must have experience from using HPC resources at least at the Medium level, or a corresponding level abroad.

How to register a proposal

It is important that your proposal includes the intended usage and characteristics of the requested resources.

Register your proposal via the Swedish User and Project Repository (SUPR) website.

PIs with existing Compute and Storage projects for the same research should clone/continue the existing Compute project (NOT the Storage project), and then request both compute and storage in the new combined NAISS Large proposal. On the Directory Name page of the combined proposal, you should then select ‘Take over directory name “DIRECTORYNAME” from project NAISS YYYY/NN-NN’ where the project refers to your old storage project.

If you have previously been granted NAISS resources, you have to upload activity reports for those projects to be eligible for new allocations.

The deadline to submit a proposal for the Large Fall 2025 call is 16 October 15:00 CEST.

PI information

Please review your personal information in SUPR and make sure that it is updated.

Project information

When registering a proposal in SUPR you must always provide the following basic information:

  • Project title
  • Affiliation – name of university/institute or similar
  • Abstract – a project abstract in English
  • Classification – according to Research Council classification codes

For Large Compute projects you also have to upload three separate PDF files with the following:

  1. The CV of the PI. Maximum 2 pages.
  2. A publication list of the PI.
  3. A project description. Please respect maximum page limits for all sections.
Below is a summary of what should be included. If it is an updated version of the document from an earlier proposal, please highlight changes. Detailed instructions are here and in SUPR when clicking the “Add Project Description” button in the proposal registration form.
    • Overview (0.5 page)
An abstract of the proposed research and computations.
    • Resource usage, codes, and performance (1.5 pages)
Required if at least one compute resource is requested. It can be omitted if only storage resources are requested.
    • Data management plan (1.5 pages)
A data management plan is mandatory if more than default storage is applied for on at least one storage resource.
    • Sensitive data handling (1 page)
Required if at least one resource for sensitive data is requested. It can be omitted if no resource for sensitive data is requested.
    • Scientific challenges (2 pages)
Explain how the proposed project is representing state-of-the-art research in your scientific area and the potential of expanding knowledge within it.
    • Research group and management (0.5 page)
Describe the full research group that will be involved in the proposed project.
    • References (0.5 page)
A list of references that are relevant to the proposal, such as previous works, papers, and methods.

Review and notification of results

The review process commences after the allocations round has closed. Proposals are subject to scientific and technical review. Scientific review is performed by NAC and external evaluators, while technical review is performed by NAC WG (the NAC Working Group).

Decisions about the Large Fall 2025 rounds will be announced by email in November.
